Did You know?

· Eggs are a naturally nutrient-dense food, which means they have a high proportion of nutrients to calories.  One large egg has only 75 calories and provides 13 essential nutrients in varying amounts.

·
On egg provides 6 grams of protein, or 12% of the Recommended Daily Value.  Eggs provide the highest quality protein found in any food because they provide all of the essential amino acids our bodies need in a near-perfect pattern.

·
Eggs have varying amounts of four of the nutrients pregnant women need most: choline, protein, foliate and iron. Choline, a recently recognized essential nutrient, contributes to fetal brain development and is important in nerve tissue development, which helps prevent birth defects.

· Eggs provide small amounts of lutein and zeaxanthin, two nutrients which are part of the carotenoid family (like beta-carotene in carrots) that contribute to eye health and help prevent common causes of age-related blindness.  Research suggests that lutein from eggs may be more bio available, meaning more easily absorbed by the body, than lutein from richer sources.

Do you remember????

A real Breakfast

- Eggs,
- To
ast
- Fresh juice

Remember how much you used to enjoy a real breakfast?

Sometimes the eggs might be fried, other times scrambled, or prepared any way you like your eggs the best.  A meal with everyone sitting at the table, talking about family and friends.  And the eggs were delicious!

Even though times have changed and sit-down breakfast is now usually reserved for week-ends, eggs can still fit into your busy daily schedule.

Can you answer this age-old question –
Which came first, the chicken or the egg?

If you believe in the bible, the chicken came first. “And the evening and the morning were the fourth day. And God said, ‘Let the waters bring fourth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven’.” Genesis 1:19-20. Chickens are a type of fowl’, so the Christian Bible says that chickens came first.

If you have a different religion, you might have a different belief about how the treasures of earth came to be. In the science of evolution, both chickens and eggs came before man. Since both birds and the eggs were on the earth first, historians weren’t around to record which came first.

Whichever answer you give, it’s okay. A chicken can’t be born without a chicken egg and a chicken egg can’t be laid without a chicken both chickens and eggs are important!
